How to Make Japanese Teriyaki Tofu Skewers Asian Cooking Recipe Cuisine
Japan Teriyaki Tofu Skewers
This recipe was taken from centuries old cooking techniques and when possible applied modern cooking methods and/or ingredients. It uses Asian cooking styles, Asian Spices, Asian Sauces and Asian Ingredients. The style of cooking may have a slight alteration while still maintaining the dish's overall purpose. In this blog we touch on recipes that may be predominant for the Chinese Cuisines. Some cuisines are considered South Asian, South East Asian, Central Asian and/or Middle Eastern and may not be strictly connected to a specific country or culture.
Recipe makes for 3 Servings
1/2 lb firm tofu, cut into regular pieces about 1 1/2 by 1-inch
6 skewers
dark sesame oil
1 scallion, finely chopped
SAUCE:
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp mirin
1 tbsp sugar, fine
Directions:
In a large bowl, combine the ingredient for the sauce. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
Add the tofu pieces and toss to evenly coat in the marinade. Let the tofu marinate for 30 minutes.
Thread the tofu onto skewers. To secure the tofu use two skewers for each kebab.
Grill kebabs over high heat for 4-6 minutes, turning once or twice by carefully holding the two skewers. Baste a few times with the teriyaki sauce to form a nice crust.
When it becomes to browned, move to medium zone and grill till it forms a new crust When done, place the skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle on some sesame oils and green onion.
