How to Make Filipino Sinigang na Baka Asian Cooking Recipe Cuisine

Philippines Filipino Sinigang na Baka

This recipe was taken from centuries old cooking techniques and when possible applied modern cooking methods and/or ingredients.  It uses Asian cooking styles, Asian Spices, Asian Sauces and Asian Ingredients.  The style of cooking may have a slight alteration while still maintaining the dish's overall purpose.  In this blog we touch on recipes that may be predominant for the Chinese Cuisines.  We will also share recipes based upon country, or regions such as: Burma, Cambodia, Indian, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam.  Some cuisines are considered South Asian, South East Asian dishes, Central Asian and/or Middle Eastern and may not be strictly connected to a specific country or culture.

Recipe makes for 6 Servings

2 tablespoons canola oil

1 large onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, chopped

1 pound beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes

1 quart water

2 large tomatoes, diced

1/2 pound fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed

1/2 medium head bok choy, cut into 1 1/2 inch strips

1 head fresh broccoli, cut into bite size pieces

1 (1.41 ounce) package tamarind soup base

Directions:

1. Heat oil in medium stock pot. Saute onion and garlic until tender. Add beef to pot, and saute until browned. Pour in water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 20 to 30 minutes.

2. Place tomatoes and green beans in pot, and continue to simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in bok choy, broccoli and tamarind soup mix. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

*You can definitely eat this on your own although you can eat it with rice. For more complex tastes, add some fish sauce.
